This young Great Blue Heron comes from Chincoteague Island in Virginia. He allowed me to get so close (2-3 yards or so) that at some point all I could photograph were the details of his head. I sure was astonished… All of the images taken with Canon EOS 7D and Canon 100-400mm lens.
Back in April of 2011, I had a chance to observe mating osprey at Blackwater NWR in Maryland. My biggest lens is a Canon 100-400mm f/4.5 – 5.6 and although I often get very good results while photographing wildlife, I do need to get in fairly close. Unfortunately, this is not quite possible with ospreys...
