At the end of January, I had a pleasure to photograph various kind of birds, primarily shore birds, near the Fort Myers area in Florida with fellow members from the NVPS photo club. Without a doubt, the J. N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge, located on the subtropical barrier island of Sanibel in the Gulf of Mexico, provided one of the best birding locations while we were there. This is where we spent our first afternoon while there and where we encountered a group of both White Pelicans and Roseate Spoonbills. We got very lucky I suppose that afternoon because for the reminder of the trip we did not run into the beautiful pink spoonbills again.
